The people were so righteous- they just lived

1..So how are your investigators? I am trying to keep them all straight. Give me there names and what is going on with them? 1. Billy came to church with his son for the third time in a row. Haven’t seen Jason in a while. There is just one Italian. Alessandra is doing well. Selina has a date for the 8th and just has to come to church next week and she is ready. Dominic and his wife came to church. We don’t see them that much. The family that came to church saw us through the window and then turned off all their lights... we saw them an hour later at the bus stop and they didn’t want to talk.

2. Did you get the package? If so when? I am trying to see how long it takes. I sent the first one on November 9 and then I sent two on the 13th. Did you get any of them yet? .I got the first package on Thanksgiving and the other two the very next day.

3. What are you reading now? Have you started the Old Testament yet? Just bouncing around. Nope. Well kind of.

4. Do you think you will stay in Croydon when Elder Hansen leaves? Very possible

5. Is the mission home in your zone? I ask because I am trying to figure out how yo will get the suitcase my friends are dropping off there the week before Christmas. It’s next door. I could easily pick it up or get someone to drop it off like the zl's

6. Any letters this week? Bertha family week! I got one from Andrew which is nice because they take about a month and a half to get to each other. I got 3 from sister bertha. Which I do  have the same bday as Megan or Monica (sorry). June 3rd!!! And then I got one from Anne Capener. So all related.

7. Any new great photos for me? I love photos!!! Sorry Ma, none this week.

On to my letter. This week was fine. It’s windy and cold and drizzling rain all the time. It was sunny yesterday but literally was still raining. We did a lot of teaching this week and trying to visit people. The work goes and goes good. Selina is progressing really well and she just came to church yesterday so she only needs to come one more time to get baptized which she says is exactly what she wants and needs. The phone must be proper if Bret wanted it. Who is Anelle?  Have I met her?   That’s good that most people came over. For Thanksgiving.  I missed it some but we had agood day with the Tuckers. Sounds like Dee and Todd gave good talks.  Todd always gives good talks. Pday today is going to be well dope. The elderly elders and sisters are making Thanksgiving dinner today so we get to enjoy it. We also enjoyed Thanksgiving with the Tuckers and they had friends from back home over so it was an American day all together. It was proper Thanksgiving in England. It is weird because there is no black Friday here. I guess the day after Christmas is a really big shopping day. Thanks for the packages. The beef jerky is lovely and I finished about half of it already. All the ties are sick especially the BB ties. Did you really send me a 400 dollar tie? The Hermes Paris tie had a price tag on the back of it and it said $388.00. Where are you getting these ties?    (Note from Christine- the tie in question came from DI-  Price tag and all.   Score!) Also a side note- I prefer the thicker material ties because they can tie some fatty knots. Oh and another side note, There are these pink flowers that if you pick them and squeeze the base, nectar comes out and it tastes really good. It’s like the nectar of gods. Billy came to church and our bishop is becoming really good friends with him so it makes it really nice and easy. So I was just going through the Old Testament and found out that in between Adam and Noah, the first two prophets, There was a ton of time.  They were separated age wise by over 1000 years and it was because the people were so righteous they just lived.

Oh and I told dad that knocking does more harm than good now here.  It is true. it gets dark at 4 and if you knock after 4 people get very angry with you.. Sadly, what missionaries do is annoying to other people.  So many people won’t answer the door.

Also dad said the Patriots played the Lions but Mark said they played the Jets. I would like to formally take this time to send a laugh to  James Welfare and Mike Calamia. hahahahahaha GO PATS!! Can’t really think of anything else to say this week. So. Goodbye.

Joey- love you all

It is me- Asian Style

To answer your questions-

1. Did you get any of the packages yet? I got one I think

2. If yes, what did you think? I think it was good?

3. Any letters this week? Does anyone email you? I got letters from Taygoe, 2 from sister Bertha (who has one coming back at her!) and a package from BA Bruce. It was a great package minus the half eaten treat. Haha  Thanks BA.

4. Any serious Christmas requests? I asked in the letter about the lax sticks? Do you want those? Sure but you would obvi have to send two mum.  I would like that a lot.

5. Also in the letter, Do you eat pudding a lot? Have you tried Yorkshire pudding? Yes I love Yorkshire pudding. I hate custard.

6. How are the investigators going? Is the baptism for the wife set yet? How about Billy? Jason? They are going well. Billy has been to church twice we see Jason a lot and the date is set for the 8th hopefully.  Pray for that please.

7. Did the super smart guy come back from Holiday yet? Yes he did and we saw his wife. They invited us to dinner and came to church.

8. What are you doing for PDay? Nothing today. it was a crummy pday actually

9. Have you seen any sites of London yet? Like the Thames river or are yo far from there? All the sites of London are on the north. I will have to wait until the end. But yes I have seen the Thames.

10. Pictures? Have you sent that card yet? Also send some attached here if you can. How is your camera holding up? I will send some pics here

On to the real letter. So I sent sister Bertha a letter. It was a bad analogy but it was true. It was a lame letter so I will have to send her a better one next time. BA sent me a package with a talk in it called the 17 points of the true church. It was a good talk. I enjoyed it a lot. I really appreciate him writing me and sending that.  He is a kool kat. This week I went on exchanges with elder Curran who is my zl I stayed in Croydon. It was really good. I learned a ton from him. He is super smart and a good missionary. We ran into Paul who knows a ton about the church but doesn’t like it. So they had a really long conversation about grace and doing all you can do. I understood about half of it. It was awesome. This week was good Dominic invited us over for dinner but we couldn’t make it and then we ended up being able to teach his wife later. She is equally as smart. These two know everything and it’s ridiculous. It’s really hard to teach them because they know everything you are going to say. Billy came to church and actually cancelled his dj studio time so he could make it. He is doing really well and the ward did awesome at fellowshipping him. How is tank doing and how is Centennial looking this year? That’s great for Bret. I’m glad that you and Alexis are like buddies now. That’s a little weird, but kool. My cursive is coming along well. I also have a surprise for Lex and Lei but mostly Lex. It’s in the pictures I will send you. That’s kool for Quincy. Korea sounds kool.  Just talk to Lim.  Oh and I attached a special pic for Q and Mary.  It is me- Asian style.
Joey- Asian Style for Q and Mary

One of the funniest things on the mission is when girls hit on you and you just get to shut them down. It’s AWESOME! I bought a new tie that’s cheetah print and the girl at the store loved it and just loved the fact that I was buying. Anyway she was speaking much flattery to me telling me how it goes so well with my eyes and telling me how she loves when guys aren’t afraid to wear something like that and so on... much flattery. I told her to have a nice day and she said oh I will and then winked and then I basically just had to cut her off,  I said, I am a missionary here in London to teach the restored Gospel. AWESOME!
Much flattery
We had another really busy week with teaches. Our ward is an awesome fellowshipping ward. Which makes it super easy because then they get to connect with other people and not just us. Make sure you do that to help the elders.  I noticed something with elder Curran. I have two years to remember for the rest of my life.  I have to do all I can.  It’s important to not waste time to me. And by wasting I mean hating. If you hate something don’t do it. I decided I’m going to love this work  and enjoy it. I told Bret that there is a time for everything, and how true that is. When I’m 30 I probably won’t be playing lacrosse/sports so I have 8 years when I get back to enjoy and make the most of it. Just like the mission.  I have less than two years now to make the most of it and teach everyone I can. Plant many seeds like you say.   I just passed the 4 month mark and I only have 20 months to do this work here in England and I am going to enjoy the rest of it.Every minute.  Everything has a time and a season.
When I get done with school I wouldn’t mind travelling everywhere with Uncle Tom. That would be incredible.

I’m outro

Joey- Love you all

Side note-

Oh also attach this to the email..... I woke up at like 1 am to get a drink and I heard some dripping in the closet and I was like whoa am I in a csi scene where someone gets murdered and the blood is now dripping through the roof. And I was like whoa serious stuff. So I opened the closet and to my disappointment it was just water leaking through the roof. So I woke elder Hansen and then we placed buckets under it and elder Hansen and I would wake up every hour to empty them. We finally found out that the people above us forgot to turn off a faucet and it leaked into their closet and into our closet . Here is a pic of it.
More photos-
Tie trading

Made official

Always himself

For Lex and Lei but mostly for Lex.  (I am guessing it has something to do with the cheetah print)

Mom I hate to tell you this but, Fogos NEVER get married.

1.    How are your investigators doing.  Great

2.  Any letters/ emails this week  Yes, Alexis, Calvin and Sister Bertha  Thank you to them I love mail

3. So do you have any Christmas requests besides mio drinks?  Scarves and jumpers (sweaters/ cardigans)

4. Quincy gets her mission call Wednesday- any serious guess as to her assignment? Somewhere in California.  Wherever it is it will be the best place in the world for her.  Like ELSM is for me.

5. How is your ward? My ward is great.

6. What are you reading in the scriptures right now? I am reading Hebrews.

7. Any photos this week? I have not taken many.  I may be able to send you some later today because we are meeting with mission leaders for accounting.  I will ask if I can send you some.

8. What are you doing for Pday today? Zone sports so ping pong and chair soccer.

On to my real letter, to answer a few things you asked about mail- No my packages are not opened and yes the beef jerky did arrive so SEND that if you can.  Tell Wes’ gramma thanks for making it.  I have not had to pay  customs fees because you have kept the cost low enough.  Thanks Mum.

Ha it’s good to hear about  Pat. I  hope everyone liked Las  Vegas.  It would have been well cooler if I was there. So look out BOTW 2014.  Connection I just made. Cougars are cats, big cats. At least you got to see everyone for me. How is the lax team doing? Pat sounds good. Did you talk to Neil and Mickell. They’re married. Which is weird- they’re d-mids. They’re the closest blood relative to the FOGO. Mom I hate to tell you this but, Fogos NEVER get married. It’s a bachelor position of sorts. Sorry to smash your dreams of grandchildren that look like me.

This week was good as far as the work goes. It was crazy busy. We had a family just randomly stroll into church. I guess they were shopping and decided to come in and check it out. Needless to say we have a teach setup with them tonight. Billy came to church yesterday. He is awesome. He is getting there slowly but surely. We see Jason probably twice a week. This week we had a d.a.s at the Tucker’s 3 times. They’re from Texas. They’re a cool family that take good care of us. It got super cold. It didn’t really rain heavy this week but man it got cold. I need scarves. Also scarves look baller with suits. I’m going to look like the million dollar baby when I get home that’s for sure with all I see here in London.  Our whole past week was crazy busy we just had teaches on teaches on teaches. It is definitely fun. I’m becoming a great lesson teacher.  Seriously.  I am . Hansen and I are just good tag teamers. And I realized there is no wrong thing to say when you speak with the spirit which is great. We met with an investigator that we have been trying to avoid for a while. He was just standing on the sidewalk and spotted us and ran into us. The reason we avoid him is because he invites us over and just bashes us. He is non denom, but he sees what we do as a good thing but for a bad church. So he has good intentions. He knows a lot about the bible, he actually has some really good stuff to share with us, but everything has a little hint of him telling us our religion is wrong. I really like the guy even though he is straight up wrong. Because everything closes at like 6 we spent 2 hours with Billy this week walking around trying to find hot chocolate. We got in some good conversations in which I know he knew what we were saying was true.  He brought his kid to church which is great. In big news, one of our new investigators has a baptism date. All she needs to do is make it to church twice, and then continue obvi. Her husband was baptized three weeks ago in the Birmingham mission. So she decided it would be good if she followed.

You didn’t tell me Obama won. People here were happy. We heard about it the day of. I’m not fussed believe it or not. Whatever happens, happens.  Like I said last week.

This week was rough because it was so busy. Like its nice but at the same time hard. For some reason I had lacrosse in the back of my mind the whole week. I’m still looking for a lacrosse kid, no luck though.

Everyone always asks if I knew Folkerson. Every time anyone hears I played lacrosse that’s the first question. President Millar loves that I played lacrosse. Anytime I see him he brings it up.  He is such a great guy.  Folkerson’s senior year should be a good one. That will be a solid defense with Harrison coming back. And yes, I do  know about Harrison training and stuff. We email. Good for him he will do well. Mary- ha Hong Kong would be ill if it was an English speaking mission. I have decided they are the best. I would struggle with language. The best mission is  England. Even more specifically London. Even more specifically south of the Thames.  Oh and mom speaking of languages when I get back I want to get Rosetta stone. The Italian version. I have set a life goal of learning Italian. It’s gonna happen. I don’t know a Charlie. And it’s good to hear that Calvin is going to Spain. He wrote me. That’s sick. We will have one last year. BYU is just stacking up for 2014-2015. That seems far off doesn’t it? Oh well. 2014 it is.  Thanks for the photos of Mikell and Calvin.  Mikell got married.  Another one bites the dust.

Oh and this week was bonfire night. It’s basically 4th of July but for a whole week. It’s not as huge as America’s but fireworks are always going on. We got invited to a Baptist church party that had a firework show. It was some proper fun.

I am out. Got big stuff planned. Also is dad still on the diet? He better be like 220 when I get back.   Did Bret get halo 4 or black ops 2? I see posters for them everywhere. Reminds me of our nights playing all night long. Tell Bret I want all of the halos so me and him can play them through when I’m back and if he is still there that is.  I will wait for him to get back too.  One last thing I have envisioned my bachelor pad. It includes a nice flat screen and an xbox and a snow leopard. Haha

This week and last-

Hi everyone- Last week I did not post Joey's letter.  It was transfer week and I thought I would get a longer letter later in the week, but no such luck.  Here are the two letter starting with today's-

November 5, 2012
Ok,so first off lately people have been asking about the presidential election stuff. Which I don’t know what is going on but the people here expect me to know because I am American. Everyone here loves Obama. I have made it pretty clear to the people here that I was going to vote/voted for Romney but not because he has the same faith as me. The media here apparently shows Obama as like the clear best choice. In asking I have found it has a lot to do with health care. I share a story of some sorts about free healthcare. President Shamo tore his rotator cuff when he was here. He went to the doctors and the doctors said that it was above their paygrade and they couldn’t do anything about so they told him to take ibuprofen and to join the wait list. About a month later he finally was able to get the surgery. (the English government signed him up for the private doctor that was closest to him, not the one that was best for the surgery) Guess who was performing the surgery? It was the same doctors that told him it was above their paygrade. The point of the story is free healthcare doesn’t work. But everyone in England loves it because it’s the only thing they know. I have decided that if obamacare holds up then I will go into plastic/cosmetic surgery, that way I will stay privatized. Whatever happens happens. That’s enough of my rant though. I try not to discuss politics but sometimes … Anyhow, this week was good in Croydon we picked up a new investigator. Her husband got baptized 3 weeks ago and now she feels like she needs to be a part of Mormonism. She is really funny. She is Ghanaian and her name is Selina. Her husband is pretty funny. Teaching them went really well. Billy is doing really well- we spent all of Saturday night looking for hot cocoa. He has a really good sense of right and wrong which makes things very easy to teach him. Jason is progressing just very slowly. We still go over to his bachelor pad often and read a chapter or two with him. He is great and we love working with him. That’s well good for Morgan. She will probs fit right in to Indonesia. Her comp might lose her too often. It’s starting to rain heavier and get really cold. It was like 4 degrees yesterday. Celsius. So I think it’s like 38 Fahrenheit. Fahrenheit 451 was such a good book. I’m still trying to find a scale, I can’t find one. People in England don’t care about weight as much as Americans. In fact the girl who got voted the prettiest girl in the world from England’s perspective is Tulisa. And she would be a little pudgy by American standards. Her neck freaks me out and I don’t think she is pretty at all.

I ripped my first pair of pants on the back of the thigh. I am not sure how it happened but it was a proper rip. One that couldn’t be sewn back.

We have big plans for this week- we are trying to get a 20 lesson week, which is tough to do. And we have to visit all the lost sheep and contact LARCs, its definitely going to be one of the busiest weeks for sure.

I have officially decided that I am going to travel the world. Preferably while I’m attending school. I would like to study abroad later.  I have seen how much you learn from other people and other cultures and other governments. Once I’m a doctor (why put off the inevitable) I will be making bank bro and be able to go everywhere. I have big after the mission goals. Like go to every state and every continent and most countries. It’s all about the connections you make with people. I also have big goals during my mission so don’t think I’m forgetting about those. Some of the mission goals are to read every page of my scriptures. Some people say skip Old Testament but its scripture too so no skipping. Another goal would be to enjoy my time here. People here often say I’m wasting time being a missionary, I say, time spent serving others isn’t time wasted at all.  Time spent teaching others the Gospel isn’t time wasted at all.  So time I enjoy ‘wasting’ isn’t time wasted at all..    I’m just impressed with everything that I have learned about people, life, religion, myself, and the world. Which in a nutshell, I have learned a lot.

My times up, until next week.

Joey-love you all

p.s. have Bret email me. Instead of write me

October 29, 2012

This week is good but I dont have much time to email. Hansen and I are staying in Croydon. Not much really happened this move. The letters were really cool because everyone thought I was a boss because of sister bertha and sister moody so no big deal. We have a new investigator who is really cool and the teaches are going great. He is probably like 28 and is a dj. His name is Billy. Do you think Brady want to room with us even though he will be married soon after his return? Well anyhow, I plan on living with brady and mary anyways. So wherever Brady is I am too. Oh it is getting so cold and it now gets dark at like 4 which is annoying because it gets really cold plus people dont talk during the night and they get angry if you knock on their doors during nighttime. Hey, how long has elder Nelly been there. Maybe Parra knows nikko paraso he is elder hansens old comp. He always talks abouts him. I have basically been solidified in Croydon for at least another move after hansen leaves. So I will most likely be here for 4 moves or 6 months. I have officially passed my 100 day mark so me and elder hansen are going to celebrate by getting nandos. It is a really spicy chicken that is really good but expensive. That is all, sorry it was short.
Read Helaman and pray always,
Joey- love you all
