Prepare ye!

It has been an exciting week around here as far as missionary preparations go.  Monday night we enjoyed family night with our friends, the Moodys.  Todd served his mission 25 years ago in England and has done extensive research since about the church in England.  He shared some very interesting stories about the early church and the missionary work in the British Isles.  He also shared photos of his mission which had us all laughing.  The Moodys are waiting for the return of their son, Elder Johnson Moody.  He will return from the Singapore mission this week.  Read all about his adventures here http://eldermoody.wordpress.com/

Joey and Johnson have been friends forever. Literally. I don't think it is likely that either remember life with out the other. Here is a photo of them the day Johnson entered the MTC.

I know, the hair is a crack up.

This is the updated version of these two buddies two years later.  (Taken 5 days after Johnson arrived home and 18 days before Joey leaves for England.)

I like this one too!

On Tuesday, Joey had his Temple recommend interview.  It was a big night for him. The stake President met with him and another missionary in the stake.  She is a sweet girl who I know from girls' camp.  Her brothers both served in England so it was fun for Joey to make that connection.  I taught seminary to the older of the two boys and always adored him.  Joey then met privately with the President for his interview.  Doug snapped a bunch of great photos.  I think it looks like President Stolworthy has a halo.

We spent the next few days shopping for all of the necessary items and Thursday night Todd came over to our house and gave Joey a very in depth lesson on the temple.  It was a marvelous thing that prepared Joey for our trip to St. George on Friday.  The Las Vegas Temple is closed this month so we headed up to St. George today.  The temple was of course a very special and sacred experience.  Needless to say, I loved it, Doug loved it, and most importantly, Joey loved it.

So after our day at the temple we had the very fortunate pleasure of being able to spend time with President and Sister Millar in their home in St. George.   President Millar will be serving as the President of Joey's mission beginning on July 1st.  Doug contacted him last week and he invited us to visit with him today.   President Millar was flying out tonight so we got to visit with him briefly, but in that time I was able to feel such peace. It was wonderful. He is a loving man who devoted most of the time we were with him talking with Joey about the wonderful opportunities he will have as he serves. I of course cried when I hugged Sister Millar and she assured me she would love my son like he was her own.

I wish I had thought to snap a photo of the two of them but this shot from the church publications will have to do.
